Information on this course focuses on medical coding practices and medical insurance procedures. Course topics include: legal issues, basic insurance literacy, diagnostic coding, procedural coding, insurance claim forms, healthcare plans, worker’s compensation disability benefits, hospital billing, confidentiality and seeking employment as a medical coding specialist.  Taught by a certified specialist currently working in the field, this course will provide the most up-to-date billing and coding practices in the state of Maine. Also, for those seeking certification, this course provides the preparation you will need for the exam. Please note: Any exam or certification expense is the responsibility of the student.
Prerequisite: Proven knowledge of medical terminology.

Medical Coding & Billing Exam Preparation
This course is for any student who has previously taken the Medical Coding
and Billing class and wants to prepare for the National coding exam. Course
content will include a review of body systems, an overview of CPT, ICD-9,
and HCPCS Coding and lots of helpful examination tips.
