CNA-M Course Description
This 120 hour course fulfills Department of
Education and State Board of Nursing requirements to work as a Certified Nursing
Assistant who may administer selected noninjectable medication to patients who
are 4 years of age or older. The content of this course includes 60 hours of
classroom instruction, 20 hours of skills lab instruction, and 40 hours of
clinical training at an approved healthcare facility. Enrollment requires an
intensive application process which includes a pre-admission test and a personal
interview. Text books are included in the cost of this program.
Prerequisites:
1. Maine State CNA Certification.
2. Listing on the Maine State Registry.
3. Equivalent of at least 1yr full time
employment as a CNA prior to beginning this course.
4. Letter of sponsorship from your Director of
Nursing (on official company letterhead)
5. Two letters of reference from RN supervisors
(on official company letterhead)
6. CASAS test scores (10th grade
competency)
Registering for the CNA-M program:
Students must first submit a registration form
with a non-refundable fee of $20.00. A downloadable version of UTC’s
registration form is available on the website or you may pick one up at the
office. Once we have received your registration and fee, we will send you an
application.
Applying for admission:
The application process includes the following:
a complete and accurate application form, a letter of sponsorship, from your
Director of Nursing, two professional recommendations, from your RN supervisors,
an employment verification, from your Human Resources department stating that
you have worked the equivalent of at least one year of full-time employment
(2080 hours) as a CNA, and proof of 10th grade competency in reading
(CASAS testing is done at UTC or the Bangor Learning Center). We will review
your application materials and send your information to the Maine State Registry
for verification of good standing as a CNA. Once that is complete, you will be
scheduled for a personal interview with the CNA-M instructor or designated
representative.
Upon Acceptance into the program:
You will be notified in writing whether you have
been accepted into the CNA-M program or not. Once accepted, arrangements to pay
for the course must be made with your facility.
Paying for the course:
Once you are accepted and have made the decision
to join the class, you must make arrangements to pay for the class. UTC does not
provide financial assistance or payment plans. The full amount is due prior to
the first class session unless you provide us with an authorization to pay from
your employer. In this case, we will invoice your employer for payment. You may
pay by check, credit card, or cash.
What your employer must do:
Provide you with the following:
1.
Letter of sponsorship
2.
Letters of recommendation (2)
3.
Verification of employment
4.
Clinical supervision
Provide UTC Adult Education with:
1.
Names of all clinical supervisors
2.
Current resumes of all clinical
supervisors
3.
Clinical schedule (40 hours each
student)
Note to Employers
Please be advised that UTC Adult Education must
satisfy all requirements of the Maine State Board of Nursing in the delivery of
this training program. We ask that you comply with the following instructions
regarding paperwork:
1.
All paperwork must be on official
company letterhead.
2.
All paperwork must be signed &
dated.
3.
The letter of sponsorship must be
from the Director of Nursing (RN), and it must state clearly that the candidate
is being sponsored for this training by the facility.
4.
The letters of recommendation must
be from Registered Nurses who have worked with the candidate in a supervisory
capacity.
