This course focuses on the skills
and knowledge that aspiring Maine guides need to
successfully lead groups on camping, hiking, and
canoeing trips in the Maine wilderness. The 11
week course emphasizes Maine outdoor traditions
which can be useful to anyone who wishes to
increase their outdoor skills. The curriculum
includes law book review, map and compass
reading, lost person scenario training, outdoor
cooking, watercraft regulations, canoeing
skills, GPS, campsite setup, safety and
survival, weather, and client care. Please
note that the Maine Guide Exam fee is not
included in the cost of this course and Maine
Guide candidates must pass a first aid class
before being licensed.
